Results at Sotheby's on Wednesday night nearly tripled the total set at Christie's on Tuesday, as many works soared above their high estimates.
“There’s clearly not enough good material to go around for two sales between Christie’s and Sotheby’s," said a Christie’s specialist.
Bidders nearly set a record for Martin Kippenberger's work, though the bids for most pieces were comfortably within their estimates.
