Stephanie Davidson's Found Space Tiles
Canadian architect and professor Stephanie Davidson has created a series of organically formed ceramic bath tiles, slated for production by Cor Unum. While satisfyingly sculptural, they are really designed for extra comfort and massage-induced relaxation befitting a spa. Each tile is slip-cast from a plaster mold that carries an impression of a dancer’s body leaning against a soft surface. Davidson wants to guide the user to an interactive experience with the tiles. “We had the lumbar ones installed, and they are really comfortable, because the concave part of the back can’t reach flat surfaces unless you bend over. This is a subtle way of just leaning back and not making a spectacle of yourself to get that part of your back reached and rubbed.”
