Likely responding to Helms and co., the Corcoran canceled a planned exhibition of photographs by Robert Mapplethorpe including images of nude men in provocative poses, such as "Jim and Tom Sausalito" (1977). This prompted protesters to project Mapplethorpe images onto the museum’s exterior. (Ironically, it might have been this that alerted to Helms to Mapplethorpe’s photos in the first place.)
