Overvalued

Edward Middleton Manigault, "Tree Rhythms" (1918). Available at Maccarone for $100,000

The second venue of Gingeras’s “Pretty Ugly” features this strangely cerebral painting with a convincing Italian Futurist spin.

I admire Manigault’s work, but based on a check of recent auction prices, nothing by him has ever fetched over $20,000. So this example is either multiple times greater than anything that has ever come on the market or just a trial balloon for showing a modernist work in a super-trendy context.
