Since World War II, organized crime has introduced violence into art crime, turning what was once a crime of passion (think of Vincenzo Peruggia's stealing the Mona Lisa in order to repatriate it to Italy) into a cold business.

There are four major types of art crime: vandalism, forgery, theft, and looting.
