Tony Oursler, “Horizon scander jeu,” at the Gare du Nord

“Horizon scander jeu” consists of a film projection onto the façade of the Gare du Nord. The work depicts 40 immigrant Parisian schoolchildren singing and chanting a text in French, accompanied by a sound track incorporating train whistles, the station’s announcement system, and instrumental music. Working with long-term collaborators Tony Conrad and Constance DeJong, the American Oursler has staged a hypnotic work that he conceives of as an “industrial opera.”
