Leo Rubinfien, "Wounded Cities," at Robert Mann Gallery, December 11, 2008 – January 31, 2009

Let’s start here — and in some ways closest to home — with Leo Rubinfien’s stunning photographs prompted by the 9/11 attacks on New York. Though Rubinfien lived just blocks from the World Trade Center at the time, he extrapolated a global project out of his experience by attempting to document what he calls the "mental wounds" borne by ordinary people in cities, like ours, that have suffered terror attacks. The results are unforgettable, if you can bear to look at them.
