“Kick My Heart’s Ass: Short Films About Love,” Apex Art, through March 21

Beleaguered times or not, February also brings with it that dreaded-by-some, beloved-by-others Hallmark holiday, Valentine’s Day. Whether the thought of love leaves you happy or horrified, it can’t hurt to make light of it, and this show at Apex Art does just that: Curated by Davy Rothbart, it brings together more than a dozen short films on the topic. Rothbart has an excellent track record — he’s a talented writer, the creator of "Found" magazine, and is currently working on his own documentary about his quest for love, titled "My Heart Is an Idiot" — and this show is funny, quirky, and as irreverent as anything he’s done. —J.S.
