Nikhil Chopra
Birnbaum’s Biennale is notable in part because it will spread out into Venetian venues previously unused by the festival. One of them is the idyllic Giardino delle Vergini, a garden complete with a tower, in which young Indian artist Nikhil Chopra will create installations and put on performances. If Chopra’s previous efforts are any indication — performing last December at London’s Serpentine Gallery, he switched costumes repeatedly, taking on the guise of a dandyish, colonial-era fictional character called Yog Raj Chitrakar — he is not to be missed.
