Aqua is straddling the Intracoastal Waterway—keeping its namesake location in a retrocool courtyard hotel on Miami Beach’s main drag while also filling out a spacious warehouse that offers galleries more traditional booth enclosures. Although the fair started out with an emphasis on exhibitors who hail from the West, “we have never wanted to be just that,” says Seattle-based co-director Dirk Park. He estimates that only about a third of this year’s 93 participants are West Coast dealers. “We’re looking at galleries that wouldn’t normally be in Miami but still have great programs,” he says.
