The only Miami fair run by a local nonprofit, Edge Zones got off to an adhoc start last year in its rambling headquarters. But artist-organizer Charo Oquet spins the group’s inexperience as an advantage. “We have a fresh approach,” she says. “It’s more user-friendly, and we’re coming from the artist’s point of view. The bottom line isn’t the dollar. We will probably take more risks than a lot of people.” Noting connections to Latin America and the Caribbean, Oquet plans to host about 36 galleries, artists and alternative spaces, and to lure art professionals and collectors with informal brunch-time panels.
