Alberto Giacometti, "Tete d’homme" (1963), at Landau Fine Art, Montreal
$250,000
Granted, it’s a very expensive ballpoint-pen drawing, but this powder-keg composition of a golf-ball-size face radiates off the 19 ½-by-12 ½-inch sheet with the bold strokes of a master.
Poised for a final purchase with almost $900,000 left in the fantasy kitty, time ran out, and besides, some cash was needed to afford a wrap and drink at the Collectors’ Lounge.
