William de Morgan Pottery

De Morgan, an innovative ceramist, rediscovered an old majolica lusterware technique and invented his own methods of pattern transfer to create colorful tiles that are unique. His designs featuring flora, fauna and geometric patterns, rendered in a Persian palette of turquoise, deep blue, red and yellow, are especially popular. A 16-inch earthenware vase, left, was offered for £25,000 ($49,000) by H. Blairman & Sons gallery at TEFAF Maastricht in March.
