Herbert Jakob Weinand, "The Bullet-Proof Glass Table" (1983), $58,000. On view at Friedman Benda
Salvaged from the Bader-Meinhof Gang’s 1969 robbery of Dresdner Bank in Munich, this bullet-pocked glass tabletop, reinforced by Weinand and set on varnished iron piping legs in 1983, is a superb conversation piece.
It also looks swell in proximity to a set of four rare Gerrit Rietveld pink-lacquered, bent-wood Beugelstoelen chairs from 1927 and Marcel Breuer’s stained oak and leather “Lattenstuhl” armchair from 1922–24, which are also on view at Friedman Benda, through March 31.
