LONDON—One of David Hockney's most famous paintings is expected to fetch up to £3 million at auction next month, the Press Association reports.

The Splash, a 1966 canvas which captures the moment after a person has jumped into a swimming pool, is set to go on auction at Sotheby's in London. The painting has been in a private collection in California for the past 20 years.

The Splash is the second painting in a series of three which includes A Bigger Splash, held in the collection of the Tate Modern, and A Little Splash, which is in private hands. The Splash will be on view at Sotheby's until it is auctioned on June 21.
