CIRCA to Launch First International Art Fair in the Caribbean

Published: May 24, 2006
SAN JUAN—CIRCA Puerto Rico is set to launch the first ever International art fair to be held in the Caribbean.

From May 25 to May 28, some 50 exhibitors from Latin America, the United States, Europe and Australia will show at the Puerto Rico Convention Center in San Juan.

Nine galleries from Puerto Rico will line up next to nearly two dozen from abroad, along with a diverse group of museums and non-profit art spaces to present a multidisciplinary selection of work that will include painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, photography and video.

Two curated exhibitions will be among the highlights of the fair: “10x10,” a show of 10 internationally renowned artists including Andres Serrano, Nari Ward and Miguel Luciano; and “In the Spot: States of Anxiety” which features the work of several emerging artists.

SOLO, another section of the fair, will present the work of five selected independent contemporary artists. A series of panels, lectures and seminars will accompany the events.

According to Elvis Fuentes and Celina Nogueras, CIRCA’s artistic directors, the fair aims to establish local and global partnerships with dealers, collectors and artists while engaging an audience of art patrons, critics, curators and scholars through the presentation of programs all over the island.
