Published: June 26, 2006
Sante Fe, N.M.—Chiaroscuro Contemporary Art here is opening its 2006 summer seasonand celebrating the relocation of its main gallery to 558 Canyon Roadwith a lovingly selected exhibition of sculpture by Magdalena Abakanowicz.

Ensconced in a dramatic pavilion at the rear of the property, the exhibition includes 13 works ranging in date, media and size.

While many are familiar with Abakanowiczs popular cycles of figures, this exhibition is an opportunity to experience some of the earlier and less well-known series, as well as her newest work.

Spilling out into the garden between the pavilion and the main house, the larger sculpture includes Four Wings Flyer from 2004-05 as well as a pair of bronze Mutants from 2001. Also from 2005 are Dolacin and Zinaxin, striding bronze figures that will be familiar to admirers of Abakanowiczs figure groups.

Hoofed Mammal Heads is an important cycle of smaller bronzes from 1989-1990 and will be represented by Artubad, Artubek and Artucet. In 1999, the sculptor created a series of avian images in aluminum entitled Ucello, and the exhibition will feature 3 examples.
