Published: September 8, 2006
Damien Hirst is unveiling his latest work today, The Press Association reports. The larger-than-life-size bronze statue of St. Bartholomew is part of a seven-week Sotheby’s show featuring modern sculpture. The exhibition takes place at Chatsworth House, the home of the Duke of Devonshire, and includes works for sale by Henry Moore, Salvador Dali, Antony Gormley and Joan Miro. “We are enormously excited at the prospect of this exhibition,” said Robin Woodhead, chief executive of Sotheby's Europe and Asia, “which we anticipate will be both a landmark event and a truly unforgettable experience for those who witness it.” The Hirst piece depicts the Catholic martyr skinned alive, with his flesh draped over an arm and a pair of scissors and scalpel in his hand. Hirst described the work as having “a feel of a rape of the innocents about it.” |
