La Caja Blancais presenting a solo show by Irish photographer and video artist Richard Mosse through Nov. 25.
In a time when war-torn cities and landscapes devastated bynature fill the newspapers and television programs we consume, thisyoung artist questions the validity of the images distributed by themedia industry as a means of communicating the reality of humansuffering.
Mosse’s photographs show devastated landscapes andschoolrooms crumbling onto the classroom desks. What strikes the vieweris not the human suffering that took place, but an overwhelming senseof stillness, serenity and stunning beauty.
The videos go even further, with Yani Intifada (2005) and Jew on a Ball (2006) depicting interviews with the inhabitants of these locations.
Mosse’s photographs and video pieces have been taken inlocations such as Bosnia, Ramallah, Beirut, Kosovo, Iran and Pakistan’sNorthwest Frontier Province.
