BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Scott Miller is the president and owner of Miller Communications Inc., a marketing and corporate communications firm, with offices in Birmingham and Atlanta.

Scott’s First Acquisition:

The first piece I ever bought was when I was in undergraduate school at the University of Alabama and I purchased one of my professor’s large paintings. His name was Al Sella. I paid $800. Even back then I knew I wanted to collect, and I realized this was a real painting. That was the effect that it had on me. I still have it. It’s hanging in my old office space.

Our Most Recent Purchase:

The most recent are two Kelley Walker paintings, based on the Birmingham race riots. They are painted in dark and white chocolate. You can see that we’ve come a long way from what we liked when I was in college! I don’t even remember what I paid for them.

Our Favorite Works:

I would say one of our favorite pieces is a painting by Takashi Murakami. In our opinion, he is one of the most important artists of our generation. One of Kelly’s favorite pieces and a recent acquisition is a beautiful large painting by Simone Lucas.
