Published: September 27, 2006
BROOKLYN, NY—

The worlds of art, literature and music will collide next week at an art auction in New York which benefits children’s literacy.

The inaugural 826NYC Art Show, which will take place on Oct. 5 at the David Zwirner Gallery, is offering for sale donated works by at least 23 mid-career and emerging artists—including several of Zwirner’s highly acclaimed clients: Marcel Dzama, Jockum Nordstrom, Chris Ofili and Christopher Williams.

Also on the auction list are Mamma and Roger Andersson, Jules de Balincourt, Chinatsu Ban, Whitney Bedford, Tim Braden, Santiago Cucullu, Wade Guyton, Roni Horn, Matthew Day Jackson, Rosa Loy, Dave Miko, Takashi Murakami, Enoc Perez, Jon Pylypchuk, James Reilly, Florian Slotawa, Fred Tomaselli and C.K. Wilde.

Musician John Flansburgh, one half of the seminal Brooklyn rock band They Might Be Giants, will serve as auctioneer during the night.

Proceeds from the auction will benefit 826NYC, a nonprofit organization in Brooklyn that is dedicated to helping kids and teens develop strong writing skills. And several of the tutoring center’s students have created original audio commentaries about the works, which will be available at a public viewing on Oct. 3-5.

Admission to the auction is $50, and registration is required at www.826nyc.org/artshow.
