Kramer to Retire from Parrish Museum

Published: March 8, 2007
SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y.—

Longtime director Trudy C. Kramer will retire at the end of 2007, The Parrish Art Museum announced on March 1.

“The Parrish is ready for a new director with youthful energy and a fresh voice to play a defining role in its future plans,” said Kramer said, who has served at the Parrish museum for 26 years and spearheaded the institution’s recent plans to build an expanded, upgraded facility.

Under Kramer’s tenure, the museum released a design concept in 2005 for its new facility, created by internationally celebrated architects Herzog & de Meuron. The venue is planned for a 14-acre site located two miles from the museum’s current building. The Parrish estimates the space will open to the public in 2009.

In addition to helping plan the expansion, Kramer also headed the capital campaign to fund the building project and led the museum’s acquisitions efforts. Among the 1,300 works that have been added to the collections are pieces by Lynda Benglis, James Brooks, Chuck Close, Dan Flavin, Elaine de Kooning, Willem de Kooning, Roy Lichtenstein and Jane Wilson.
