Gold Ingot Stolen from Paris Artwork
Published: February 5, 2007
The ingot was part of a work on display by American multimedia artist Gary Hill. The foundation said it was stolen overnight Wednesday, without giving details, but a source close to the investigation said two or three armed and masked men made off with the ingot after tying up the security guard. The thieves also took an undisclosed amount of the foundation's receipts for the day.
The ingot was the centerpiece of large installation entitled Frustrum,
composed of a projection screen and a basin full of black industrial oil,
denoting wealth. The installation, minus the ingot, will remain on display until
Sunday. It is one of two works by the 55-year-old artist commissioned by the foundation, which have been on display since October 27, 2006. Copyright 2007 Agence France-Presse |
