VIENNA, Austria (Agence France-Presse)—

An exhibition of contemporary Chinese art is to be one of the highlights of the 2007 season at Vienna's Museum of Modern Art (Mumok), its director said yesterday.

There is also to be a major exhibition of works by the French artist Yves Klein (1928-1962), famous for his passion for the color blue.

"China—Facing Reality," organized by the former director of the Beijing Museum will show the range of the booming contemporary art movement in China.

"Works showing with irony the contradictions of Chinese society" will be on display, according to Mumok director Edelbert Kolb, who said that Chinese artists were never certain of the political boundaries they could cross.

The Klein exhibition, "Yves Klein: The Blue Revolution," will be one of the biggest in recent years. It will be organized in conjunction with the Georges Pompidou Centre in Paris and show from the end of March some 120 paintings, sculptures and installations by the artist, based on his favorite color.

His minimalist musical compositions will also be performed.

Other highlights include a retrospective of the work of Sigmar Polke, a German artist born in 1941.
