Biennale Nightlife

Published: June 12, 2007
VENICE, Italy—Where's the party? In Venice, it was everywhere you looked during the past week. Kicking off the Venice Biennale, several celebrations—both planned and impromptu—drew top-notch crowds. Here are a few of our favorites.

Wherever Elton John goes, a party seems to follow, and his arrival June 6 at the Biennale, alongside Naomi Campbell, was no exception, with a crowd converging upon the two celebrities. Other Biennale sightings included artists John Baldessari and Whitney Museum curator Chrissie Isles.

At the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, the RI Group hosted a VIP dinner, also on June 6, for the opening of its exhibition "All In the Present Must Be Transformed: Matthew Barney and Joseph Beuys." We spotted plenty of art-world stars, including the artist Will Cotton hanging out with philanthropist and mega-collector Beth Rudin DeWoody. Also in attendance were artist Patricia Patterson, Guggenheim Museum director Lisa Dennison, artist Henry Vincent, and fashionista Bettina Zilkha.

Philanthropist Lady Liliana Cavendish showed up at a birthday party June 6 for Moscow House of Photography director Olga Sviblova, held at Hotel Europa, along with art advisor Maria Baibakova, Guggenheim Foundation director Thomas Krens, and designer Ellen Verbeek.
