Hammer to Inherit “Dream Collection”
Published: July 9, 2007
LOS ANGELES—The UCLA Hammer Museum has been chosen by
Colorado developer Larry Marx and his wife Susan to inherit the couple’s
collection of drawings and other works on paper, which includes works by
Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Andy Warhol, Ed Ruscha, and other prominent
figures of the post-World War II era, the Los
Angeles Times reports. The museum is also able to borrow or display any of
the works from now until the Marxes die or decide to hand them over early. The
monetary value of the gift has not been tallied, but Gary Garrels, the Hammer's
chief curator and deputy director of exhibitions, said the number is likely at
least in the seven figures. He called the works “an absolute dream collection,
a cornerstone for decades to come."
