Artists Overhaul Philadelphia Hotel Room

PHILADELPHIA—If you’re going to spend a night at the Westin hotel in downtown Philadelphia, choose room 414.
The hotel gave a group of local artists six weeks, $10,000, and free reign to completely overhaul one room, reports USA Today. Led by designers R.J. Thornburg and Eileen Tognini, a team of more than two dozen artists and designers installed drawings, prints, sculptures, handmade furniture, and a wall-sized mural in the space. "The goal was to create an experience that illustrates what's happening in Philly's creative community," says project director Errin Cecil-Smith. Spending a night in the “uwishunu” (pronounced “you wish you knew”) room, she says, is "like making 30 studio and boutique visits" in Philadelphia all at once. |
