Weekend Picks is a new weekly column at ARTINFO in which we spotlight a solo exhibition by an artist and they in turn recommend several exhibitions in the same city as their show. This week, we feature Sarah Sze, whose exhibition at London's Victoria Miro gallery runs through September 22.
Since the late 1990s, the New York-based artist Sarah Sze has created large, elaborate, site-specific installations out of everyday objects—from tea bags to lightbulbs to water bottles. The careful consideration of each and every object she uses—and how they interact—is a hallmark of her style, as is a casual disregard for the spatial constraints of the spaces that contain them. Sze's installations are known to penetrate walls, dig into the ground, and dangle from the ceiling.
For her first exhibition at Victoria Miro, Sze takes up both of the gallery's floors. On the ground level, she features a new installation, while on the second she reconfigures Tilting Planet, which was first shown at Sweden's Malmö Konsthall in 2006.
