Johns and Ono to Trump Koons and Hirst in 2112?

NEW YORK—A list of artists who will be “embraced” by museums 105 years from now, published by the art magazine ARTnews in celebration of its 105th anniversary, includes some surprises, reports Bloomberg.

Megastars Jeff Koons and Damien Hirst both failed to make the list, compiled from surveys with more than 30 museum experts.

Instead Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, Francis Bacon, Gerhard Richter, and Yoko Ono are expected to feature prominently in 2112, while market successes Lucian Freud, Martin Kippenberger, Peter Doig, Zhang Xiaogang, and Georg Baselitz are not.

Participants “were thinking with their curatorial hats on,'' said Robin Cembalest, ARTnews's executive editor. “They were not asked which artists would be financially most successful.''
