The work, L'Odalisque, Harmonie Blueue, features one of the artist's favorite models lounging behind a bouquet set on a table. The oil on canvas painting was purchased by an unidentified buyer during the auction house's sale of Impressionist and Modern Art. A handful of other paintings also set auction records for their creators, including Camille Pissarro's Les Quatre Saisons from 1872, which sold for $14.6 million; and Paul Signac's Cassis. Cap Canaille from 1889, which sold for $14 million. |
