Contemporary Auction Week: An Oblique Look

NEW YORK—Today marks the beginning of that week in the fall when contemporary art collectors from all over the world make their way to New York to take part in—or in some cases just to watch—some of the swiftest redistribution of wealth outside of bank robberies and the backroom negotiations of the Ways and Means committee. ARTINFO will be reporting on the auctions every day, but for our Top 5 this week, we thought we’d offer not what we think of as the best work for sale (in the end, that comes down to nothing more than taste or accounting), but instead some slightly oblique views of what will undoubtedly be a heady week for us all.
