Lifted Off

Published: November 22, 2007
Ground control had to keep a close eye on Tom Sachs’s lifesize replica of a lunar module at Gagosian Beverly Hills this fall. During the crowded opening night, someone inside the spacecraft quietly swiped a bullet mounted near one of the artist’s trademark pistols. Fortunately it didn’t become a repeat of Mary Boone’s 1999 Sachs show, where the dealer spent a night in jail for distributing live ammo. After the theft, Gogo staffers monitored activity via surveillance cameras that were conveniently part of the work—and escorted visitors whenever possible onto the spaceship.
