SeaFair at port
Has
SeaFair already hit rough waters? Just a few weeks after its September launch, the floating art fair announced it would skip stops in Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington this fall and head straight to Miami for “unexpected minor repairs.” A spokesperson says Florida has better facilities to ready the yacht for this month’s
Art Basel Miami Beach. One participating dealer, however, grouses that SeaFair committed a “gross error” in making the event invitation only and requiring specific boarding times—a policy that was later loosened. Fair founder
David Lester responds, “The problems were teething issues that you would expect with any project this size. We’ve learned some very valuable lessons.” For starters, the event will get a new name that changes with each port. Slipping into a slip at the Miami Beach Marina, for instance, will be
Art MB.
"Ship to Shore" comes to ARTINFO from the December 2007 issue of
Art &
Auction magazine.
