MIAMI—Art Basel is considering branching into Beijing with a new partner, Design Miami, the Financial Times reports.

MCH Messe Schweiz, the Swiss convention center and event management group that owns Art Basel, has bought 50 percent of Design Miami Basel, which runs the interior design fair in Basel, and a 10 percent of Design Miami, the original interior design fair.

Rene Kamm
, MCH Messe Schweiz's chief executive, said yesterday he expected the partnership with Design Miami to develop ideas for international concepts within a year, including a possible Design Miami Beijing "with an art component to complement the interior design." He also said of Art Basel that offering "features of our franchise, adapted to the state of the Asian market, is now possible with Design Miami."

Craig Robins
, co-founder of Design Miami, is founder and president of Dacra Group, an urban redevelopment and property company involved with building the retail component of a $100 million development called Pop Moma and Grand Moma in Beijing. Robins said an Art Basel/Design Miami Beijing project could sync nicely with the development.
