NEW YORK—Performance artist Marina Abramovic has purchased a theater two hours north of Manhattan in Hudson, N.Y., where she intends to establish the nonprofit Marina Abramovic Foundation for Preservation of Performance Art, reports the Art Newspaper.

The 20,000-square-foot structure from the 1930s, which will undergo a full renovation, will house artist workshops, courses for the public, a library, a grants program, and, of course, performance. Abramovic intends for the space to be a place where works can be developed and ideas exchanged, "like the Andy Warhol factory without the drugs," she says.

Future plans include providing video and post-production equipment as well as a second property to house resident artists. Abramovic hopes to begin programming as early as summer 2008.
