ABU DHABI—The British firm Foster + Partners Ltd, founded by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Norman Foster, has won the international design competition for the Sheikh Zayed National Museum in Abu Dhabi, AME Info reports.

The seven-month competition asked for a unique and defining public monument for a national museum in honor of the founder and former president of the United Arab Emirates. It will feature an education center, theater, and galleries devoted to the country's heritage, environment, and transformation, to unity through leadership, and to education.

The museum will be built within the Cultural District of Saadiyat Island, where architects commissioned to design cultural institutions include Frank Gehry for the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, Jean Nouvel for the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Zaha Hadid for a performing arts center, and Tadao Ando for a maritime museum.
