The seven-month competition asked for a unique and defining public monument for a national museum in honor of the founder and former president of the United Arab Emirates. It will feature an education center, theater, and galleries devoted to the country's heritage, environment, and transformation, to unity through leadership, and to education. The museum will be built within the Cultural District of Saadiyat Island, where architects commissioned to design cultural institutions include Frank Gehry for the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, Jean Nouvel for the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Zaha Hadid for a performing arts center, and Tadao Ando for a maritime museum. |
