LONDON—More than 50 works by
R.B. Kitaj and by his artist friends—including
David Hockney,
Francis Bacon,
Lucian Freud,
Frank Auerbach, and
Leon Kossoff—found in Kitaj's house when he died in October, will be auctioned by
Christie's London on February 8, the
New York Times reports. Kitaj shared ideas as well as art with the artists, whom he called the London School and whose works could bring in an estimated $6 million. He met Hockney when they were students at the
Royal College of Art; for £5, Kitaj bought a skeleton drawing of Hockney's that could sell for $30,000 to $40,000 at the Christie's auction.
