MILAN—Leonardo da Vinci’s Codex Atlanticus, the largest collection of his drawings and writings, is infested with mold, reports the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

The 1,120-page, 12-volume Codex is housed at the Biblioteca Ambrosiana in Milan, in a temperature- and humidity-controlled vault. But this hasn't prevent the outbreak of various types of mold, which range in color from red to black.

Expert restorers from Florence have carried out what has been called “emergency restoration” to limit the damage. But there are no funds as of yet for further conservation work.
