MOSCOW—Russian Culture Minister Mikhail Shvydkoi said today that new British laws securing legal immunity for contested artworks would clear the way for a planned exhibit of Russian art in London next month, reports the Agence France Presse. Moscow had signaled it would not lend 120 works from four state museums as planned, complaining that Britain had not guaranteed immunity from court challenges to the works' ownership. In response Britain agreed to expedite legislation offering additional guarantees. Moscow fears claims will be made for works in the exhibition that were seized in the Bolshevik Revolution, according to AFP. The exhibition is scheduled to open January 26 at the Royal Academy of Arts and to include works by Cezanne, Gauguin, Matisse, Picasso, Renoir, and other masters.
