Ads Could Replace Art at Pittsburgh Airport

PITTSBURGH— Pittsburgh International Airport is considering replacing one of its major artworks with advertising, USA Today reports. Both the artist, Peter Calaboyias, and local officials have complained about the possibility that Silver Grid Wall, a 78-by-8-foot aluminum work that has hung above the escalators since 1992, could be replaced by ads. The airport is thinking of selling the space to make up revenue that will be lost when US Airways cuts 40 flights next month. Airport spokeswoman JoAnn Jenny said Pittsburgh International could generate more than $10,000 a month from the advertising.
