PALM BEACH—With Art Basel Miami Beach having established itself as the epicenter of the international art world in December, shock waves can be felt 70 miles north in Palm Beach during January and February. Although several collectors and dealers are reluctant to take two consecutive business trips to the Sunshine State, those who do have made the three fairs held at the Palm Beach County Convention Center worth the commute. Running January 11 through 14, Palm Beach 3, now in its 11th edition, gathers some 90 international dealers in contemporary art, craft and design. The emphasis this year is on photography—don’t miss the work of Korean photographer Atta Kim at Berlin’s Galerie Caprice Horn. Also on view is a preview of “Unbroken Ties: Dialogues in Cuban Art,” a show opening in April at the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale and featuring émigré artists Abelardo Morrell and Arturo Cuenca.

The 12th edition of the Palm Beach Fine Art & Antique Fair, February 1 through 10, has lined up 100 exhibitors from Europe and the U.S. Van Cleef & Arpels, a first-time exhibitor, is selling vintage jewelry, including a circa 1971 emerald necklace created for Princess Salima Aga Khan (price upon request).

More than 200 international exhibitors are attending this year’s Palm Beach Jewelry, Art and Antique Show, held February 15 to 19. Show organizer Kris Charamonde expects strong interest in 19th- and 20th-century American paintings. Gallerist Howard Godel, of New York, is bringing Girl with Teacup, circa 1935, by William Glackens, priced at $850,000. One-of-a-kind, unpredictable offerings like that, coupled with the sedate atmosphere of Palm Beach, keep collectors charmed.
