Edelman Emerging Solo on Upper East Side

NEW YORK—Wall Street raider turned art dealer Asher Edelman is looking to open a gallery on New York's Upper East Side that will show emerging artists, reports Bloomberg. Edelman, who has been dealing privately for about seven years through Edelman Arts Inc., is ending a joint venture in the Neuhoff Edelman Gallery in favor of working alone. In the past he has promoted such younger artists as Yasmine Chatila, Christopher Winter, and Cathy McClure. Edelman says the market is showing some weakness as banks feel losses from subprime mortgage investments and high-end art buyers drive harder bargains, but he isn't concerned about opening a space at what some consider a peak in the market. "I can't make as much money in art as I used to on Wall Street, but I can make a good living," he told Bloomberg.
