BERLIN—The Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and Deutsche Bank have struck a deal that will give the Guggenheim partial ownership of 60 works they have helped commission, reports the New York Times. For the past decade, the two entities have jointly run a Guggenheim branch in Berlin, called Deutsche Guggenheim. According to the initial agreement, Guggenheim curators would choose the artists and oversee the creative process, while Deutsche Bank would finance the works, shows, and catalogs. Now, the bank has offered a donation that will give the museum 50 percent ownership of 60 works by five contemporary artists who have shown at the Berlin space: John Baldessari, William Kentridge, Hanne Darboven, Jeff Wall, and Phoebe Washburn. "It's been remarkable for us," said Nancy Spector, the Guggenheim's chief curator. "In many cases the artists have made major works, which will now be part of our collection."
