NEW YORK—The
Whitney Museum of American Art is closing its Altria branch at 120 Park Avenue on January 29. The last exhibition in that space, "Undone," featuring works by
Tom Holmes,
Tony Matelli,
Eileen Quinlan, and
Heather Rowe, closes the same day. The
Altria Group, which funded the branch, is selling its headquarters and moving to Richmond, Va. The space has been in operation since 1982, presenting about four mostly contemporary exhibitions a year. The Whitney will not seek a new location for the branch, focusing instead on its new High Line location in New York’s Meatpacking district. A book delineating the branch’s 25-year history will be published this spring.
