Star-Studded Valentine's Auction Aims to Raise $29M for AIDS Relief

NEW YORK—A Valentine's Day auction called "The (Red) Auction" organized by Bono, Damien Hirst, Sotheby's, and Gagosian Gallery aims to raise as much as $29 million for AIDS relief in Africa, Bloomberg reports. Previews start February 4 at Gagosian's W. 21st St. gallery and run through February 13, with 72 lots hitting the block February 14 at Sotheby's New York. Hirst donated seven works, valued at up to $13.4 million, including Where There's a Will, There's a Way, one of his signature pill cabinets filled with HIV antiretroviral drugs that is estimated to fetch as much as $7 million. Gagosian's artists like Cecily Brown, Takashi Murakami, and Ed Ruscha contributed a quarter of the works, which feature the color red.
