Christie's Kicks Off Auction Week With $200M in Sales

LONDON—More than $200 million of Impressionist and Modern art was sold yesterday at Christie's, kicking of a week packed with Impressionist, Modern, post-war, and contemporary sales at Christie's and Sotheby's, Agence France-Presse reports. The highlight of last night's auction was Pablo Picasso's Femme au chapeau (1938), which sold for about $11.29 million. Other notable sales were Kess van Dongen's L'Ouled Nail for $11.09 million, nearly double its high estimate. Eight works by Egon Schiele sold for a total of $24.75 million. One auction house director predicted that as much as $560 million of art could be sold this week.
