We Won't Always Have MajorcaBy ARTINFO

COLOGNE, Germany—Art Cologne has announced that it is folding its sister event on the Spanish island of Majorca, because the airport venue in Palma where it held the inaugural fair last year is not suitable, reports Bloomberg. "A strong art event needs an appropriately inspiring venue,'' said Oliver Kuhrt, director of Koelnmese GmbH, the company that runs Art Cologne. "The current site doesn't offer the scope to make the most of the event's potential." The decision comes just weeks after Art Cologne director Gerard Goodrow stepped down under pressure from local dealers complaining of declining attendance at the fair. "We are concentrating our resources this year on repositioning Art Cologne," Kuhrt said. "Koelnmesse will reexamine its engagement on Majorca as soon as the exhibition halls there have taken on a new shape."
