NEW YORK—Christie's Impressionist and Modern Art mid-season sale February 14 in New York brought in $3.7 million, above its $2.4 million estimate. The auction sold 91 percent by lot (134 out of 148) and 97 percent by value. The top lot was Leopold Survage's oil on canvas Paysage du Roussillon (1926), which raked in $205,000, rocketing past its $60,000 to $80,000 estimate. New world records were set for the artists Michele Cascella, whose oil on canvas Paris, Les Tuileries (1961) brought in $157,000, above its $25,000 to $30,000 estimate; and Jean Duffy, whose oil on canvas Orchestre symphonique (1929) also soared above its estimate of $60,000 to $80,000, to achieve $145,000.
"When coupled with the overall success of the sale, these results confirm the continued strength of the international market," Christie's specialists Brooke Lampley and Stefaney Sekara said in a statement. |
