MADRID—Madrid’s Prado museum is restoring two Goya paintings damaged during the Spanish Civil War, Agence France-Presse reports. The celebrated works, Charge of the Mamelukes and The Shootings of May 3rd,
have been on exhibition at the Prado, marred with damages they
sustained while being transported to the Mediterranean port of Valencia
to safeguard them from bombings in Madrid. They will be repaired for
the first time to be included in the exhibition “Goya and the War
Years,” scheduled to open at the museum April 14.
