A Jolt of Electricity

NEW YORK—Manhattan got a jolt of electricity and a jolt of color the last week of February, with an opening and a preview that lit up Rockefeller Plaza and the Museum of Modern Art, attracting a swarm of museum and gallery luminaries, fashion mavens, and socialites.

On February 27, Rockefeller Plaza unveiled art duo Tim Noble and Sue Webster's latest creation, Electric Fountain. Nearly 40 feet high, the public project, presented by the Art Production Fund, attracted big names such as Marc Ecko and Jeffrey Deitch to its opening at the Center for Architecture.

The night before, MoMA exploded into color when it kicked off the exhibition “Color Chart: Reinventing Color.”  Ellsworth Kelly, one of the artists featured in the show, came to the preview, and Lawrence Weiner could also be found roaming the halls among such familiar MoMA figures as museum director Glenn Lowry and curator Klaus Biesenbach.
